Trying to Get Control
So today we worked on a little head control while we were at MH's house. She has her excersaucer and Johnny Jumper out, so I thought we should see what Harvey could do.
Hey, what's dis thing for?

Things Every Mom Should Know
I came across an article today in Parents Magazine that made me laugh. It's titled "39 Things Every Mom Should Know". I haven't personally experienced all of these things with my own child, but I certainly have with other children. Here are some favorites:
*Do your chores while kids are awake. Using up naptime to wash dishes or clean the bathroom is truly soul-crushing.
*Put Band-Aids on everything your kids want you to. Why not?
*Just throw away the poopy underwear (Amen and Amen!! That's what I've been saying for years. It's not worth scraping the poop off a pair of $.25 underwear).
*If the kids are awake, bite the bullet and be awake yourself. You'll waste so many hours trying futilely to extend early morning snoozes that it's not worth it. If you are sick, pregnant, or it's the middle of the night, ignore this advice.
*Know this: That stain won't come out. And it's ok. (The sooner you accept this the better).
*Teach them to pump on the swings ASAP!
*Answer this question: What is the worst thing that can happen if your kids sleep in their clothes?
*If your child falls asleep without brushing her teeth, don't wake her; baby teeth fall out eventually.
*Don't administer a punishment that hurts you more than it does them.
*Teach them to like cool music. Why suffer through The Wiggles when you could be enjoying Wilco or counting along with Feist?
*It's fine to brag about yourself to your kids. :)

Day Seven
Today Harvey attended his first birthday party! His friend Satchel turned 2 today and we helped him celebrate. Here he is apparently levitating over the birthday boy.

Day Six
Whew, a post a day is wearing me out! It's getting tricky to come up with new stuff to talk about. Today's post is a little different, that's for sure. First, here is Harvey actually grabbing toys----on purpose and everything!
Yeah, shove those toys (that aren't ours) in your mouth!
While I was watching him play, I wondered what those toys must look like to him. So, I took some pictures from his point of view. I must say, the following images are not for the faint of heart. Here are the toys from the playmat in the pictures above:
This next toy kinda freaked me out when I saw the pictures. Here is Harvey playing with his little friends on the bouncy seat.
But this is what he sees:
Holy cow, those things are pretty big and scary when they're all in your face!! I have no idea why he thinks they are so entertaining. Perhaps he's putting all these toys in his mouth in self defense. Trying to eat them before they eat him.

And when doing a post about life from his point of view, we mustn't forget his beloved ceiling fan.

Day Five
Harvey is getting so much personality right now! He smiles all the time. He only cries when he's hungry or sleepy, and that's about it. When he does start crying, look out! You only have about 34 seconds before he's out of control. He "talks" all the time---very loudly. Again, I have no idea where he gets that. I discovered today that he is ticklish around his collar bone. You can tickle him over and over again and he will just keep on laughing. We'll put a video up on here sometime soon.
You sure I can has that?
He has really started to figure out what his hands are all about. He's always had an obsession with his hands, but now he's figuring out how harness their power for good instead of evil. He now swats at toys (and occasionally grabs some---not really on purpose, but an added bonus for sure), he's constantly sucking his hands and drooling everywhere, and over the last few days he has been watching his hands very closely. He watches his fingers move in front of his face and he'll stare at his arms/hands as they flail around when he's playing. Pretty sure he has no idea where those things are coming from, but they sure are entertaining!
Tonight we did something a little different and went out for dinner after work. It's nice to not cook every now and then! Cheeseburger Charley's has a new veggie burger I've been wanting to try, so that's where we went.
You sure I can has that?

Day Four
So I thought today I would show you what he does most days when we are at work. Here are some sweet shots of him playing with his friend Mary Helen.
She's in the 10th percentile, Harvey's in the 93rd. And truly, she is normally super happy. She just wasn't digging camera time at that moment.
And some of dis!
First let's just note how different these two are.
